out drive shaft to short on my 470 ???

ok ive already wore out another engine coupler i just got this 1984 cheetah with a 470 mercruiser and a 120 outdrive already replaced a bad egine coupler that was in the baot when i bought it , but figured out the shaft is short after oops did it again. the prob. is it has a 9 9/16" shaft already and thats the longest one i can find am i missing something. and yea im a newb. thanks for any help.

Did you use an alignment tool to align the outdrive?

yea but the shaft only went maybe an inch I new better but some time you just gotta learn the hard way i guess wondering if I have the wright outdrive I dunno.

Sounds like it might have been way out of alignment and as I understand it, that will quickly ruin a coupler.

Slightest misalignment = quickly damaged coupler. And SPLINE grease is a MUST.

thanks may just take it to some one and let them line it dont want to burn up another coupler.
