Hey guys I was wondering about this issue with the seals in the water pump for the camshaft. I have a mercruiser 3.7 and the seals went bad in 2010. I had just cut off the tip of my thumb, so I took it to the local boat shop. When they called to say that it was fixed he mentioned that it would probably leak again. I asked why and he said that the cam was warped. I was not really in the mood so I just went and picked it up. Then last year my little sister took it and sure enough it leaked. So I called the boat shop and they had said that the mechanic who worked on it no longer works there. I have heard it was for performance issues but who knows. They said that I could bring it in and they could look at it again, but I would rather look at it myself. I just bought the manual for the torque specs, but I was just wondering if that there may actually be a issue with the cam? Looking at other peoples threads it seems fairly simple to do, so I am not sure if he could have really jacked it up. Any ideas and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: advice

I doubt they'd warranty after 2 years, especially if a fault was flagged and he was told it will leak again...

I have NEVER heard of a warped camshaft (warped humour, yes). I suspect the mechanic didn't put a speedie-sleeve on the end of the camshaft, which fixes that problem properly... If you want to do it yourself, you need to pull all the front covers off, get the impeller off the end of the camshaft and put a speedie-sleeve on the camshaft to 'repair' the grooves, and a couple of new seals....

Which manual are you using? (Please don't say 'seloc' or 'clymer'....)
