Ayuh,.... Fill the bilge with 20 gallons of water, 'n a gallon of Pine-sol,...

Then trailer it around on bumpy roads, with alota stop, 'n go drivin'....

When ya get home, Drain the bilge, 'n Hopefully, it'll be spotlessly Clean....

Btw,... Plastic bags will stop that from happenin' Again...

Dish detergent is really good at picking up oils. You can find some that are bidegradeable.
I also like Starbrite bilge cleaner for on the lake. I like, most, the remote oil filter adapter I installed last year because I only want to burn my hands with hot oil a limited number of times in my life.

Just about any powdered laundry soap works well, but I'm partial to Tide. Like Bond-o said, drive around or take the boat out for a ride. Should be good as new.

I guess some things that I write out should be spelled out completely. I would assume

that the OP would know to bypass the pump if they were to do that. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks everyone !!

My marina changes help regularly now. First time they have dumped the filter in there.
Will do the slosh job on the river ...........With the pump breaker unhooked.......They have a big wet / dry vacuum cleaner.

Thanks for the good detergents.

I would expect the marina that made the mess to clean up the mess, why should you have to do any of it, they made the mess not you.

yeah the idiot previous owner of my boat used to tilt the boat up and drain the oil sump, filter and who knows what else right into the bilge and out the drain hole. I got in there with some 409 and ultimately some engine cleaning foaming cleaner. Cleaned er right up!

The marina will now do a pressure wash job with the plug out.

You could also throw some oil absorbing pads from any baot chandler in the bilge. Fill it with water, even toss some bilge cleaner in there. The oil absorbing pads will soak up oil, but not water. After a while, when you remove the pads, the oil will be soaked into the pad. It's not perfect, but it works if you can't haul the boat out.

Throwing down some oil absorbing pads BEFORE the oil change would have been better.
