Found this website while researching a problem I am having with my poontoon boat, and hoping I can gain some insight here as to what the problem might be.

Johnson 60hp Electronic Fuel Injection 4 stroke
Model # J60PL4SR
Manufactured 03/2004

Ran the boat for the first time this year last weekend. In years past it has always started right up and idled fine, this year however it took a lot longer than normal to get cranked, and once it does crank it doesn't want to idle very well. I can get it started and if I can apply some throttle the boat runs great while we are underway, the problem only seems to be starting and idling.

The contols for this particular motor, there is no way to give it gas while it is in neutral, so the only way to apply throttle is while it is in gear. I feel as if I could give it a little gas while idling it would be much better. I am not sure since this boat is fuel injected if giving it gas while starting is a bad thing and that is why the option is not there.

There is a lever on the controls that you can raise up kind of like some of the old outboard controls that I have seen, but I can't tell that it makes a difference on this motor, also you can push the key in like a choke but that doesn't seem to help anything either.

It is a hassle to carry the boat in to have it worked on, so I was wanting to try and fix it myself. I am fairly competent when it comes to carburated outboards, but these new fuel injected 4 strokes I am not to familiar with so if it is just something little that needs to be replaced or cleaned I feel like I can probably handle it.

Thanks in advance!
