1988 85 horse force (water pump)

just purchased new water pump kit for my 85 horse force motor,my first boat,need to know?the new housing has a plastic tube coming out of it,an also plastic tube sticking down out where everything mounts back up,does both tubes posed to be there? seems like when i try to stick drive shaft back up to re-mount, that these 2 tubes are stoping it from going far enough to re-mount? help needed. thnx,jeff

Pics of the parts?
Some parts don't fit all applications.
Should be a short white fitting on the end of the pump.
The tube from the motor fits into this.
Look up this parts diagram.
Always post pics if possible and the model/serial#s
The pumps for those years were all pretty much the same.

Check the sticky note posted by Frank. The 85 HP uses the same parts as the 125HP ( I believe) and Frank did a very detailed information on changing impellers. If you still have problem get some pics posted and it should help in sorting the problem out.

that the white piece jerrys talking about. this ones for my 50hp. sticks out top of housing. the tube coming down from motor shoud slid down into this piece.

thnx,what had happened is that piece had got stuck an stay up there on the copper tube an i figured out had to get that piece off and everything went back up fine,again thnx for your help.

thnx,got it figured out an put back together,gonna hit tha water tomorrow an try it out,again thnx for tha help.
