At lower rpm it sounds normal and no back firing. Also a lower temperature it does not back fire even when I rev it up to 2000 rpm. what should I look ..."

Thanks Don,
This started after I was running at higher speed ( 3600- 4000 rpm) on a rough sea for about 45 min. how could the fuel mixture change?

Dirt or water in the carb will do it.
Do you have a water separating fuel filter installed? Has the filters in the fuel pump and carb been changed lately?

This engine had about 100 hours when I got a water separator installed last year and after this install I put another 50 hours before I got this problem.

no, the filters were never changed,
