1997 Mercury 45 HP Jet Outboard.

Just bought the boat and motor. Has sat in a the guys shed for (likely) 2 years without being run. The first time I took it out, it had a tough time starting, no problem, knowing how long it sat. Got it started and ran nice for about 45 minutes.

Took the boat out 4 days later, started in a sec and ran smooth for about and hour and a half. Shut it down (docked) for about a half hour. Then the trouble began.

The motor started stalling. First, when Idling. It started right up again. Then stalled when put in slow forward speed. Started right back up. The stalled when put in reverse. This time it didn't start back up. Thankfully I was at the dock with trailer waiting.

I don't know much of anything about motors and this is my first boat. Any ideas guys?

Thanks so much.

Might be the new gas loosened some old varnish and clogged up the carb. Sounds like a fuel problem.

If you have not already i would replace all fuel lines. Be sure the tank is clean and flows fuel nicely. I bet you will have to tear the carbs down and clean them.
