I've got an omc 2.3 in a renken 2000 classic that I can't get to quit overheating. I've replaced the impeller and housing the exhaust flap was burnt out and sitting in the bottom of the exhaust pipe so I got it out and I replaced the circulating water pump but I replaced it with one out of a ford truck someone told me that some boat motors are reverse rotation and I needed to get one for a boat is this true?the one for a truck was $30 but the ones for boats are about $200. if anyone knows anything about this or what else it could be please help. Thanks.

Re: omc 2.3 oveheating

There is a reason that marine parts are more expensive. I would check the rotation of your engine and circ. pump. If the rotation of the circ pump is CW I would pass on that for now as the cause. Also check the thermostat, and exhaust manifold, when they get rusted/corroded they can cause water flow problems. If you can't get water out you won't get it in.
