will a mercrusier 3.0l run if the distrubtor is 180 out. I rebuilt mine and broke a rod 1 hr into the trip. Would like to know why before i start over

it shouldnt run, however if it did, it would not run well.

Some of the 3.0l engines had a 'dual firing' ignition system called DDIS. They would fire 4 sparks per revolution, so yes, it would run with the 'dissy' (motion sensor) in 180? out....

Mine is a 1984 model. How would i know if it had the DDIS

The DDIS ignition does not have spark plug wires on the distributor, just a cover plate.
