Ignition coil question

Hi All,
I have a 79' 55hp Seahorse. One of the ignition coils is gone and I am going to replace. The 2nd ignition coil was giving me a good spark. However, is it good practice to replace both of them being that they were original? Also I see available on line mostly Sierra or CDI coils. The Sierras are a good price but do you get what you pay for?
Thanks for any info. Steve

Re: Ignition coil question

You don't have to replace both of them at the same time, if #2 is giving you good spark, leave it alone unless you can see a crack. If it has a crack in the casing you should replace it.
I have used aftermarket coils without any problems, OEM coils are available at several sites.
