Hello all boaters I just bought a 1989 four winns 180 horizon with a rotted floor and crack engine block I have already replaced floor and engine but after starting it for the first time today while in neutral idling the outdrive makes a clicking noise kinda like its half engaged or something. Now I check the alignment after puttin the motor in with the tool. And it's perfect. U joints a perfect and greased, gimbal bearing moves free and I gresed the shaft with spline grease. Just changed the gear oil too. It's a 4bbl 4.3 motor. Omc cobra 1989. Could it be the shift cable? Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: OMC Cobra clicking.

Does the noise stop if you move the shift handle very slow into forward or reverse? Just push it 1/4" at a time to see if it stops.
If I does it's probably out of adjustment. Check your cable where it comes out of the hull into the gear case. Seems to be a bad spot for them.
