I have a 1969 merc 500. I put a inline fuel filter before the primer bulb. on of the clamps is leaking due to a very small bend in the hose clamp. I have tried to tighten it pretty good but dont want to break it. My question is two parts; 1) should I do this? I am doing it because I want to make sure the fuel is not contaminated. 2) the filter is not filling with fuel. Is this due to the tiny leak in the system from the clamp. I have ran the motor with the muffs on. Seems to run alright. But I ran for only 5 minutes mostly at idle speed.

Thanks for any help or ideas!!

No leaks are tolerable on suction side fuel lines. Screw adjustable clamps are not recommended as they can cause leaks. Fuel filters don't always run full. This is normal.

I am using screw clamps. So I pulled one off and the filter is which is plastic is being crushed.
