I have a Sears 1970 12 foot jon boat. My son and I just finished setting it up. I have bought a Minn Kota 50lb thrust trolling motor to get us around on the lake. The batter weighs a ton in its box and if I set it in the rear ahead the transom and then I weighing 245lb set in back With this make the boat sink to point it takes on water. My son will be riding in front but weighs only 84 pounds. Will it be too much weight in rear to hurt boat functioning? thank you guys.

If you shift the weight around it should be fine.

What do you mean by, "shift the weight around?" I have to sit in back to drive the troll motor, The battery has to be in back because of trolling motor hook up. I weight 245. Please explain more. thank you

You can extend the wires to move the battery a bit foward and that should help. and a cooler and other gear.

Re: Need some Help with Weight on Boat

When I had my small jon I put the gas all the way forward and the battery behind the first seat opposite where you sit to help balance the boat side to side.

You can make the wires as long as you want same as a gas line, play with the weight and you should be able to get the boat to balance out pretty good.
