Stupid Question

Have researched for two days on here and every related website available, to answer a simple question. Have always had surge disc brakes before. Current new boat has drum brakes. Should the return port in the fluid fill cap intended for disc brakes be open or plugged in a drum brake set-up? It has two covers over it from Titan, but they are not airtight. Seems you would want to keep moisture out.

Thanks

Re: Stupid Question

Fixed your title ;)

Generally you do not submerge the master cylinder on the trailer....... are you really launching is a spot where you need to go in so deep?

Bob, brake fluid is hydrophilic so will absorb moisture from the air.

Not an answer, but another stupid question I guess. If your new boat has drum brakes, why would it have a fill cap with a return port intended for disc brakes? Are you intending to use your old actuator with the new boat?

Re: Stupid Question

First off, brake lines do not have a return line!
Second off, your cap should be air/water tight, thats why the rubber inside is slinky like, if you loose fluid the rubber takes up the area that air would sit in.
A master cylinder is just a push/pull of fluid to engage or disengage the pads/slave cylinder.
