Tried a search, didn't come up with anything.
I don't work on many merc's, so I need some advice. Working on a 1980 4 cylinder 50hp.
Need to change the upper mounts, the ones that hold the exhaust housing to the transom bracket, what's the best way to do it?
Do you have to remove the engine from the boat or can it be done with the engine still on the boat?
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

The motor can stay on the boat but the powerhead must be removed

Thanks for the information.

You might want to consider inspecting that swivel pin while your at it. The bushings are just teflon and when they wear out you get a lot of slop. It's a cheap fix if they aren't NLA at Merc.

I'd suggest going to solid mounts but I can't think of anybody that's making them anymore. Used to be a hot item on the race circuit and makes the boat drive like it's on rails.

I only mention these things because the opportunity is there. It's not worth it if you were just doing the lowers.
