So I just bought my first boat about a week ago, a 2005 Bayliner 175 with the Mercruiser 3.0. Had some trouble starting the boat the first time (on the water). When I turned the key from "off" to "start" the engine tried to turn over but didn't quite make it. I turned the key back to "off" and tried again, only this time there was no power to any of the dashboard instruments, and no sounds from the engine at all.
After a few minutes of troubleshooting (checking connections, etc.) we were able to get the engine to start by turning the key from "off" to "accessory" waiting a few seconds as the gauges activated and then turning the key to "start". Engine ran great, but when we turned it off again later in the day we ran into the same problem. Only this time when I turned the key from "off" to "accessory" none of the gauges activated (no power to the gauges). I turned the key to "off" waited a minute or so and tried again and it worked, engine started and we were on our way.
This did not happen anymore over the course of the day, but since i am new to boating I'm not sure if there is something I am doing wrong or what the issues may be. If it was a blown fuse somewhere, then I simply would not get power at all to the dashboard correct?
Thanks for any help!
