Hello all,

I am currently having an issue with my motor skipping during high RPM, and sometimes low RPM. When I put the boat away at the end of last season the motor was doing the same thing, I realized I mixed the fuel wrong, 32:1 vs. 50:1 and fouled the plugs, and this is what I though was causing the issue. However I replaced the plugs and fuel, in which the issue is still happening.

I have since thought this was an electrical issue, and re-did my negative and positive battery wires, and checked all grounds, everything appears to be fine. I also found that even w/ a 50:1 ratio I am still fouling the plugs in cyln #1-3, and #4 is fine. Not sure why this is?

When cruising along, I feel as though there is a little power loss at full throttle, but not much. The boat will jerk as if I am revving up and down, however it is in the throttle stays in the same position. this happens at low RPMs as well, the boat will rev up and down, and some times stall at almost idle speed. I adjusted the idle screw, but now at idle the boat revs to high and slams into gear, so I plan to back the screw off. I should note that when the motor skips, a puff of smoke also emits from the exhaust.

I was hoping that maybe someone could shed some light as to why this is happening. I am concerned I may have a bad cylinder, and have my fingers crossed that this is not the issue.

History on motor:
Changes spark plugs this season
Compression check was done, 120psi on cyln. #1-3 and 100psi on cyln #4.
Fuel ratio = 50:1

Thanks in advance,

JT

I would guess one of the cylinders isnt getting spark sometimes, if this is a consistent problem you can find the probable culprit with a timing light hooked on the ignition leads, from there you can trace which cyl.
