Some are the photos are repetitive but I was trying to make sure that the shadows weren't blocking something important. I'd like to save it if I can.

I didn't see any deep scratches. But it is discolored from rubbing.

The alum in the block around the cyl sleeve looks kind of bad also.

Yeah. Looking into finding a new block and head at a salvage yard. Does any one know if there are pre-packaged kits of gaskets, grommets, ect for removing and replacing the block? I don't want to reuse any of that stuff if I decide to take on this job.

I'm putting a 83 v4 crossflow back together now that looked very similar to this. .I,m just replacing the head, piston, and rings. cleaned all the aluminum out of the cylinder wall and gonna see if it works.

You have detonation damage. Rebuild is a necessity. Go the whole route. Have crank, rods and block checked by a competent machinist, familiar with two stroke engines. The block looks dubious because of the erosion near the sealing areas. When you have it rebuilt find out why it failed. Timing. Fuel. If you put the same crap on as far as accessories you will burn it down again. You've got to know exactly what caused the detonation.

Detonation you may say. It can be identified by the erosion of the aluminum at the exhaust port. This started the damage and accelerated it while running. It being the top cylinder, I would look at timing. Perhaps a pack this is double firing. The boat may be overloaded and not running at W.O.T. well. What was the W.O.T. speed?
