78 mercury 2 cylinder 40 hp. carb

I have a mercury 40 2 cylinder that's been sitting a few years. Cleaned the carb and got new needle for it. If it does not still run and has the problem of priming the bulb with gas just pouring out the front of the carb-can i swap the carb with one from a mercury 40 horse from 1974?

You just need the carb rebuilt as the float is not closing the inlet neddle. Dosen't cost much,and a service manual fot the motor should be a must have if you plan on working on the motor and keeping it.
