85 mercury 90hp - overheating??/

I have a 85 mercury 90hp and after idling in water for about 5 minutes, the motor shuts off and you can see hot smokey air coming from carbs and vents. just had carbs rebuilt and it idles smoothly.

Kevin, That motor should run dead cold at idle. When was the last time the waterpump was replaced?

BTW - the motor may have an overheat horn, but will not shut off even if it overheats.
