I have been having a lot of electrical problems with my 1985 115 hp Merc inline 6 cyl. I'm pretty sure I have a bad stator or stator going bad. I have already replaced both switch boxes, Now I can't even get my boat up on plane it stats missing so bad. Starts ok idles ok low speed ok, bad high speed miss like something is shorting out. I was told these motors were notorious for bad stators. Anyway my question is there a big difference in aftermarket stators compared to new quick silver merc stators? about a $50 price difference. Sierra is the cheapest, then there is cdi, and Mallory, but someone told me not to mess around with the cheap electronic parts they don't last? Should I spend the extra on OEM part?
