Hi I just bought a boat with a relatively new Mercruser engine in it. The boat is old. It is 5.7 L and the serial number is 1G100952. Can anyone help me find out more about the engine or even help me to know get a manual now I know the serial number? Thank you

That's not a serial number for Mercruiser. The SN should be on a tag above and a little aft of the starter.

Errrr, yeah Don, it is...

It's quite recent, and my look up program only runs to 1998 (yeah like me, too old), but based on engines I know that looks like about 2 or 3 years old.

Here's a manual -> https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&...NDg3Ny00YWM2LThkYjgtM2UyMzc3NDEwZDFh&hl=en_GB

and for the drive -> https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&...YWRiNy00ODUyLWFmNzgtMTBmMzhlNGY4Mzk3&hl=en_US

Or got to Merc's website (https://webapps.brunswick.com/litreq/navigate.do) and buy a hard copy...

Thanks Don and Chris

I got a bit worried there. Looked all over for a different number. Found lots but none that looked like a SN. Thanks too for the link to the manual. Exactly what I needed.

Thanks again both of you,

Well, that serial number doesn't even come up on Mercs Parts express site. Matter of fact, I couldn't find any 5.7 with a SN starting with 1G....... I even put in the above SN and it came up blank.
I do know that service manual 31 was updated with a lot of new information in 2009, that is not in the online version we have and you linked to.

Comes up as SERIAL NUMBER 1G100952 NOT FOUND

Serial Number: Model Number:

As of right now, it appears the new serial numbers are starting with 1A, 1B, & 1C only, It seems no other combinations numbers like 1D, etc are coming up at this time.

Like Don mentioned, Mercury parts express.com should be up to date if needed.;)

looks like g.jpg

Here is a photo. I guess it could be a "C" but it looks like a "G" to me. What do you say?

Ahhhhhhh, it's a remanned engine, not a new engine. No way to look up serial numbers on remanned engines.

How about some pictures of your engine, what is the year of the boat, maybe a serial number for the outdrive. What ignition system etc.
