hi everyone, long time lurker first post here.
so here is my problem:
history>
i bought this boat and it idled great on viewing, ran ok the first few time out we were able to pull a wake boarder but seemed a little under powered. (comparable to the 90 hp we had before it) it started to sputter out at the end of the day and we thought it was out of gas. we filled the tank and it has never ran proper since.
problem>
it starts and idles will rev to 4500 rpm, should be 5500+. after 5 min or so it starts to lose even more power and loses rpm till it has a max of 1800 rpm or so. if it sits for awhile it seems to improve marginally. we limp it to the dock and tow it home. we then call a boat shop, they give me a suggestion and we try it and produce the same results. rinse and repeat! i'm to the point id like to sink it to the bottom of the reservoir! ive brought it to two different boat shops to just fix it. the first offered the suggestion that it was bad gas. not happy with a suggestion but trusting a professional opinion i ran till the problem existed and hooked up a jerry can of fresh fuel with a new primer and hose till the motor. cleaned the fuel pump screen and hoped for the best. ... no joy! second guessed it was out of timing but due to a missing timing cover couldn't confirm. i haven't been able to track down a cover or pointer so i cant rule this out but seems like that would be a consistent problem not something that would just develop.
what ive tried>
cleaned the carbs. (they looked good from the start .)
tested compression . 110 across the board. all within 5%
replaced plugs
removed 1 plug wire at a time on the lake to see if any differences existed. (all made a difference)
replaced the water pump
changed the bottom end oil.
checked the fuel pump diaphragm ( looked good)
squeezed the primer while running (no difference)
installed a fuel filter
removed the neutral rev controller
i would post a vid but not sure if thats possible on this site. ill try to host it some where and link it.
if any one has any experience with this issue please chime in i really want to enjoy the lake this year, i'm prepared to spend a bit of money on this boat but am tired of throwing money and beautiful sunny days into a pit.
