I thought I would do a little write up on my 2006 Q4 19.5' Smart Tab SX60 install work around. I to had all the symptoms bow wander, bow rise, rough ride, very little trim adjustment to prevent porp ect. I decided on the SX60's as this seemed the best option for the money, found a set of blems for $50 and away I went. I sooned realized I would have a issue deciding how to install them. With this model tahoe I have the rounded exstentions that come out from the transom under the swim platform. So basically you have two options with this design you can mount towards the center line just outside the outboard closer to the center line or mount them to the rounded hull on the exstentions to get them further out if you install them per the instructions. Option one I feel would suffer to much being so close to the center line. Option two I didnt want to bind anything from forcing it to conform to the round hull and break something or crack my hull. I have a friend who is a structural engineer and a boating enthusiest as well he came over and we looked it over and decided I would turn them under and mount from the bottom exstending them out past the hull and the axcle would mount as directions state. The only thing about this is they do not fall into a natural 25 degree angle when doing this they will fall straight down so you will have to know how to measure a 25 degree angle to create the right setup. The directions say to not mount them on two different surfaces but they are refering to the top piece being mounted overhead on a platform exstention which which will create binding and makes since. However all I did was manipulate the bottom mount which will create no more stress than mounting them as per the directions on a transom that is slanted out over the water. I will post pictures below to show what I did, my transom exstends down about three inches below the rounded exstentions so my whole set up is still above the hull line that runs the length of the boat. I measured 5" from the outside edge across the transom and them used a square to mark a line out towards the rounded exstention so them are mounted the exact same on both sides. I had a chance to put it in the water for a few minutes this morning and seems its going to make a huge change in handling, no bow wander, much less bow rise, water was slick so I cant say as to the ride of the boat in rougher water as of yet. This weekend we plan on taking it to the water and doing several test with them on and then will remove them and do the same test and measure the distance and post the results. Anyways just thought I would throw this out there for Tahoe owners who are in the same boat as me with no good option on installing them per the factory directions, but with my friends expert structural advice I feel this setup will be just as good as per the directions.
