I recently rebuilt the carbs on my 50 hp mercury thunderbolt. Now my pull cord won't retract. Is there an easy fix for this, or am I going to have to take the whole thing apart?
Thanks,
Scott:eek:

Should be able to spray it down with brake or parts cleaner to remove the crud.
Must be a Big guy to pull start a 50.

Not that bad to start. Not a real big guy. What should I spray down? Do I need to take anything apart?

It is a 70ish 50hp thunderbolt mercury. Not sure about the serial number. Is there anything I can do forst before I go messing with the spring and taking it apart. Should I spray the parts with engine cleaner? Sorry for the dumb questions. Not a mechanic.
