My brothers and I bought a 78 mercury 40 hp motor with controls and all for our 24 ft project pontoon. We changed it
and the controls and put some lubricant in the cylinders. We changed the impeller and lower gear lube Before we turned it over, we primed it and before we could turn it over-the gas pours out of the carb...We pulled the carb off to take it apart and clean it as we think the float is stuck or gunked up.. Is that my main problem? Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks for any help

I would rebuild/clean both carbs while there off.Replace all gaskets,check float heights to spec and moving freely.Needle assembly i would just replace.
