The carpet on pontoon boat is in bad shape. I was thinking about removing the rails, and seats and haveing the boat rhino lined.
wanting to know if anyone has done this and what you think about it.

a couple of cons i can think of is: it would be almost impossible to replace part of the decking if its rhino lined, you would not be able to find the screws, or separate the boards. also im concerned about adding extra weight.

Their have been several threads on this subject some have and others have gone with a marine grade vinyl flooring. Personaly I plan on going with the vinyl when I change mine out.

Wouldn't the lining be very rough & hot?
I have light grey carpet on mine & it gets pretty hot!

Isn't vinyl slippery when wet?

Mine is raised as well as textured and has a rubbery feel to it.

I'm going to have to keep that in mind should I ever need to replace the carpet. The lake I boat on has a lot of suspended silt and I can never rinse all of it out. The vinyl, along with raising the rails, would be very tidy.

I saw this in BoatUS magazine this month. I contacted them about putting it on a pontoon deck, they said it would work great. The website also has some good howto videos. Take a look. http://www.seadek.com/

Hey, Jessp,

I'm considering redoing my floor as well. What brand of vinyl did you use, and what was the cost. How did you install it (adhesives, techniques, etc.), and what other issues, if any, did you run into?

Purchased it at Pontoonspecialist....for 30 feet it was 477.00 plus the glue that I purchased from PontoonStuff at 30.00/gal, need 3 gallons. You can request vinyl samples to choose from. It is the greatest. Cleanup is a spray nozzle on a water hose. Can't say enough about it. Nice rubbery type raised, textured vinyl, easy on the bare feet. All my grandkids absolutely love it too. With the spacers, everything just runs off where ever you have the hose pointed. Most all my was purchased at PontoonStuff. My prop came from iBoats and is exactly what I needed...Installation was very easy, roll out the vinyl, then roll it up so you do about 10-15 at a time, spread out the glue with a trowel you can purchase from them, let it set for just a bit (instructions provided on website you can printout), have a couple of people pull and stretch it out and I had someone with a wide broom push toward us to level it out, and repeat. Had a 6" piece of pipe we rolled the entire deck with once it was done. Relatively simple, just a little labor intensive. But great results.

My boat isn't a pontoon, but I did install the Nautolex brand marine vinyl in it and absolutely love it!

I suggest wrapping each sheet of decking individually and then fasten it down with blind rivets. this way you can remove 1 piece or all of your decking without ruining your nice vinyl deck.

The Nautolex isn't slippery at all, it has a non-slip textured finish and is very easy to clean. Dried fish blood doesn't even stain it and it washes right off.

Sorry for a non-tooner popping in like this, but I just thought I'd share my experience with the marine vinyl.

I bought my vinyl here:

I've worked with Nautolex in the past. put it on the for deck of a cruiser. Real nice looking vinyl for a boat deck. Thge one I used was white plank look with black lines. Really sharp.
