Mercury 1150 Compression Question...

After running a Compression test on my 1977 1150 and found that cyl #2-6 are all between 135-140 but cyl #1 is at 122. I was wondering if this is acceptable or is this an issue that should be resolved immediately? If it does need to be fix how difficult is this project? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

You have a 35 year old motor. That compression is fine, IMHO....

Re: Mercury 1150 Compression Question...

Its not perfect but its OK. Tearing it down opens up a whole can of worms not to mention opening up your wallet to gain 10% more cranking compression on one cylinder which translates to 1/2 HP on a good day. There is not a linear relationship between cranking compression and engine output.
