I have 2 oil plugs in my lower unit that appear to be the same thread an pitch. The top plug has stripped out the threads.
I want to put a helicoil in it.Can anyone tell me what the thread and pitch is?
I have the lower unit torn down to do the helicoil. Behind the prop there is big plastic nut that holds the bearing + prop shaft assy in the lower unit. My service manual says the nut should be torqued to 210 ft lbs. Is this a misprint? Should it be inch lbs
All help appreciated. Thanks
Ken

I'ts not plastic, its probably cast aluminum, and no that's not a misprint. Crazy as it sounds that's what is needed to hold that seal. I'm assuming you're talking about the retainer nut that you need a special socket tool for.

Yes, it is a plastic nut. I took my pocket knife and carved through it to see what it was. I can't imagine this nut holding 210 ft lbs of torque. It is only about 1/4 inch thick.
