Merc 1100 ss lower unit

I have purchased a boat with a Mercury Kiekhaefer 1100ss. I just purchased the boat and motor last night and from what I can tell the lower unit has been replaced with a different one from a possible Mariner. The motor runs great but will not go into reverse, is this a common problem, if so I was thinking about just replacing the lower unit. What lower units are interchangeable for this motor?

punch up "no reverse" in search thread and you will prob find your answer a thousand times, possibly the cam needs repositioned.

What is the s/n of the engine?

It may be something as simple as the boat and LU were not in the same gear when the LU was last installed.

Send the s/n so we can see what you have.
