It's because they are cast legs, not forged.... and you're better off with a 3 jaw puller, not 2....

That's a little baby bearing puller, not for pulling gimbal bearings. You need a bearing puller with a heavy slide hammer with a 3 jaw puller. Like the one pictured below. Just turn the fingers around.

that's exactly what i used to pull my bearing. 5 hits with that bad boy and the bearing came right out. I DID try the little two armed bandit you had going there and couldn't pull it out for the life of me until i put the 3 jaw puller in.

I have the Harbor Freight version that I bought years ago for $25 (broke it once and they replaced it for free), but I'm not sure I would pay the $70-80 they want for it now.

You only need to replace one bearing and it's paid for itself....
