I have a hole in my fuel bowl

1988 Mercury Marine MCM 165 with 2 barrel mercarb.
The engine was stalling out, so I took the carb off to rebuild.
When I took it apart, I noticed what looked like sediment in the fuel bowl, and I thought it was the issue for the performance issues, so I thought cool, I can clean it up and be good to go.
However, when I soaked the carb in cleaner, I noticed a casting flaw in the bottom of the bowl appears to have been repaired with epoxy and that was what had turned to sediment.
I used a baking soda sand blaster to clean out the bottom of the bowl to clean up the epoxy and when I was done, I found the casting was porous and there was a hole the diameter of a number 2 pencil lead.
The original owner is my father in law and I know this carb has never been apart before, so the epoxy fix must have been done in the factory.
My question is.... should I try to repair the porous area with jb weld on the inside? or should I spring for a refurbed carb.
I'm concerned about leaking fuel if jb weld doesn't hold and more sediment over time if it does. But are my concerns un-necessary? I can post a pic if needed.

Been here...done that.

Tell you what, I have the part you need in the barn. I'll ship you my disassembled Rochester 2 barrel that should work for you and my spare carb (spare is missing the same part as you) if you'll send me something for the rebuild kit I have for it. I don't need them anymore and only hung onto it because the rebuild kit is brand new in the box. Send me a PM with your address if you are interested.

Both carbs are marine carbs.
