I'm looking to purchase a 2000 sea ray with the bravo III. It has the infamous corrosion problem since the mercthode isn'tworking, I plan on repairing it all but the question is, is it okay to use? What's the worst case scenario ? Thanks

Corrosion caused by electrolsys:
mercathode not working properly
drive bonding wires missing
trim sender has broken wires at transom, putting 12V directly into water.
bottom paint used on drive
bottom paint not kept 2 inches away from transom.

Thank you, but is it okay to use the outdrive? What's the worst that could happen?

It all depends on where it's corroded and how bad.

Here's an example of bad corrosion on the rear bearing carrier:

****But note that this drive was NOT leaking any oil, nor ingesting any water.******

The worst case scenario is that you lose all the oil or let in all water and RUIN the gears and everything inside the drive.

Do you have $6000 laying around? That's what a complete rebuilt Bravo 3 costs here on iboats.

this was, is my 2000 Bravo 3 a year and a half ago, no leaks in or out but now I keep the boat on a lift....... I have put 500 hrs on this in 18 months and faithfully change the gear oil every 100 hrs. Using only Mercruiser High Performance Gear Oil

Ayuh,.... Worse that can happen is the prop stops turnin', stoppin' the motor, 'n yer adrift in a busy shippin' channel,...

At Night....

If ya survive, 'n get towed in, you'll need Atleast a Complete New drive....
Instead of Just the cases ya need now...
