I have a 1972 Johnson 25 hp . It was converted to long shaft before I got it. The problem is that is sort of jumps or jerks. It also is shearing prop pins on its own. I have herd it could be a bushing in the prop or a clutch dog. I appreciate more input on this. I would like to figure out the problem and try to fix it. The motor runs well and I would like to get it back on the water.

Re: Motor jumping and shearing pins.

I believe your problem is a worn clutch dog and forward gear ears. YOu'll have to disassemble the lower unit to check, AND know what a bad dog and gear look like. ALso, your prop shaft may have been wallowed out by someone using nails or whatever instead of actual drive pins and it's causing it to shear pins when it jumps out and back into gear due to the worn clutch dogs.
Best I can do....
