It looks like the 1pc were only used 1996-2000. Short lived... so they must have been bad design. Bondo has informed me in another thread that these manifolds need to depart the boat asap. So, I have been researching the conversion kit for converting exhaust manifolds from old 1pc to 2pc. Some people have entire kits. Some, just the conversion kit that comes with exhaust boots and clamps... but i would still need elbows. Anyways, what is special about the kit? It looks like it includes hardware that attaches to regular manifolds and risers.

I can buy grade 5 or 8 bolts and ss clamps at the hardware store. So what makes the kit so special?

I have my eye on some osco manifolds and risers... and it comes with bolts and gaskets. But i will still need elbows and boots. I have found some used elbows on ebay. But like i am wondering, do i need special elbows to make this work? Anyone that has completed this conversion please chime in and let me know.

p/n's i have researched....
kit: 864293a02
riser: 807988a03
manifold: 99746a17
elbow: 14478t01

I guess the real question is could i make this work with...

What else would i need? Also, would it be wrong to sell the 1pc manifolds on ebay? They have not failed... still usable.

Well, i was trying to save a little by making my own "kit." Seems like GLM gets a thumbs down on their manifolds. Yes, they are easy to find, cheap, kits made by glm. I would pay a little more for the osco manifolds just for ease of fitment. I was hoping i could make up the extra expense by finding the right parts to make the install work.

Here's all the part you need to convert single (batwing) manifolds to something that won't destroy your engine...

2x Dry-joint Manifold: -864612T01
2x manifold gasket: 27-99757
2x Dry-joint Elbows: -864591T02
2x elbow gasket: 27-864850A02
2x upper rubber tube: 32-44348001
2x Exhaust elbow tube(aluminium): -865947A01
2x lower rubber tube: 32-14358001
16x 4” S/S hose clamps

Is this all OEM Merc? What about the Y-pipe? Re-use the original 1-piece or replace with newer 2-piece? Looking at this option for my '97.

Uses the same Y-pipe and shutters....

Meaning no engine removal to convert right. Just pull from Y-pipe connection forward to the heads and replace it all.

Chris, I got your pm.... and I thank you for all the part numbers. I just think its a bit much for me right now. I went ahead and bought the manifolds and risers in my links in my original post. After all is done, I will have about $650 in the whole setup. My stingray had the original manifolds and that boat was over 20 years old... I don't see myself keeping this boat for near that long.

I got my manifolds and risers the other night. Shot them with some rustoleum gloss black... hope that doesn't take all season to burn in. Osco look like some nice pieces. And my used elbows and boots seem like they will be just fine. So all done I have less than $650 in my new setup. The only hiccup i see is the water fitting on the bottom of the manifold is in a slightly different spot than the originals... so that hose will need trimmed on both sides.
