Mercruiser 3.7 Rebuild??

Just bought a 1985 Rinker 180v with mercruiser 3.7 liter. Owner said it was locked but bought it cheap. I keep hearing horror stories about this motor, so want to know what's best option. Rebuild or replace with different engine. And, what engines would be compatible.
Also, where's the adults only section I keep hearing about

Nothing's compatible, unless you have too much time on your hands, best bet is rebuild or replace with another 470...or another boat.

Any issues with rebuilding the 470? Any advice or tricks of the trade?
I was referring to the adult section because I've seen other posts that say there are service manuals available
