Hi All,
this is amazing info board - thank you for all the amazing information..
My 1999 johnson 90 boggs after wot after about 15 seconds (enough for a bowl of fuel).
Seems like MANY folks are having problems with this..
I (and my 20 year experienced Johnson mechanic) have come to the conclusion its a fuel starvation issue.. Ran it on a portable tank - same issue - boggs after wot for 15 seconds.. idles PERFECTLY upto 2000rpm.
Keeping the ball pressurized (manually) FIXES the bogging (runs PERFECT) - so kinda taking out electrical issues. Although not sure the ball needs to be FULLY pressurized to run perfect normally - needs to be FULLY PRESSURIZED manually to run perfect.
Cleaned Carbs (did not replace gaskets or float/needle) - mechanic said "looks like someone was in here trying to fix the problem - all the carbs looked rebuilt" - checked float levels, etc.. all good
Checked the float on the vapor separator - good
Ran the portable tank directly to the engine fuel filter, (cleaned the filter, did not replace)
Did hear on one post that someone put a 5psi pump between the tank and the water separator - mechanic said this was not a good idea as wasn't fixing the problem - just putting a bandaid
Fuel pump holding pressure on both ends - (checked)
Have 5/16 line vs 3/8 line from tank to water separator and then to ball then to engine - calls for 3/8 - mechanics said this is not the problem
Stumping my mechanic is a pretty hard thing to do.. this is crazy..
any suggestions (PLEASE).
Change the fuel pump (although showing good pressure - no leak in pressure) ?
Change the fuel vapor seperator - no leaks ?
holy moly.. please help..
thanks in advance - Cliff
