150 ficht 15 sec horn then check eng light

I have a 98 150 ficht and the horn sounds about 1 min after startup, last about 15-20 sec and stop but ck eng stays on runs fine.changed complete fuel filter base, filter, and sensor. replace ignition module which went bad last year, new water pump kit. smokes alot runs cool about 125 degrees @ idle. any suggestion? annoying!!!:confused:

so you have a check engine light without slow activation, right?

any chance to hook it up on a diagnostic for checking fault codes?

when it smokes a lot- what oil do you use?

One simple fix is to back the tan/orange wire out of the plug that connects to the system check gauge, you just wont have the water in fuel or charging system over volt horn.

This is a common problem with that model, it is usually a false water in fuel indication...You can send it to DFI and have it updated.

thanks Ill try running it today with a backup just in case. when I pull the two wires will I lose anything else. using johnson oil.:)

It,s not two wires, it's the tan with a orange tracer. and as stated before you just lose water in fuel and over volt.

yeah I figured it out when I pulled the tach. thanks for the info no horn and no ck eng lite. nice!!! still have a slight miss under load. took primer bulb out between racor filter and motor and went back to one bulb. think second bulb running low on fuel. heard it needed two but dont know. any info on that. will try it again today. thanks for all the help.:)

Would be extremely careful in disconnecting the 'high voltage' alarm on this engine. Normally it is an indication of something that should be corrected asap before EMM burns out or other expensive parts. Quite often caused by a faulty grounding.

Not sure how you are checking your temp, but 125 is way to cold, should be 140 ish at idle. think thermostats/ pop-off valve.

You said "pulled the tach". Is it now just disconnected or what ?? OMC did have some probs with the tachs back in those days.
