IMG_5451.jpgAny advice on the install of a shift shaft seal.

Is this an easy fix?

What should I make sure I do?

What do I want to make sure I avoid?

Replacing the seal is straight forward WITH the right tool.

Getting the seal out can be a real PITA without the proper tool. I've replaced a few of them with a homemade tool but it's not always possible. If it's the original seal, it could be really stuck tight.

Once you get the seal loosened, be careful not to pull the shift shaft up with the seal. That's a whole new help topic.

The shift shaft seal typically comes as an assembly with the seal already installed in the threaded housing. Be careful you don't damage the new seal as you slide it down over the splined shift shaft. I wrap a layer of scotch tape over the splines to protect the seal.

Why are you replacing the seal?
