Is there a decent substitute for volvo penta outdrive grease (PN 828250)? The shop manual says to use it during outdrive removal and re-installation, but I was hoping there would be a decent substitute that I could get down at the corner auto parts store.

I have the same question for the white sealing compound (PN 1141570) used on the outdrive studs.

Outdrive stats:
SX-M1 2.18 gear ratio
SN#: 4202167281
Spec #: 3869333

Add to the question...can a fiber grease be used in this type of application. Many years ago fiber grease was used in wheel bearings to prevent run off....

Any grease will do, the grease on the nose of the drive just lets it slide as it presses against the ujoint bellows as the drive is tightened down.
On the studs, it just prevent corrosion, nothing more.

If you are now referring to the splined shaft going into the coupler, Head to your local Mercruiser dealer and get a tube of what they call "Spline Grease" it's designed for those coupler splines.

When I said any grease, I was assuming you meant these areas.

Those are the areas I meant. I bought some molybdenum trioxide grease for the splines.
