lower out drive leaking oil :(

1974 merc. 120 hp.
can i remove the lower half with out worring about the shift linkage?
and while its off do the impeller and all seals and gaskets in the lower?
i have the online manual for it. :)

Why not pull the complete drive and do the job right? After you fix your know leak, then pressure test the drive to make sure you have ALL the leaks fixed. Then put gear lube in it.

Even if you only pull the lower, you will have issues with getting the shifter an all lined up. Do the job right, one time, and be done with it.
