I have a 1996 E150ELEDB that is giving me fits and need some advice please. This motor had a new powerhead installed last fall and the carbs were rebuilt at the same time. The VRO has been disconnected and I pre-mix my fuel. The issue I'm having is the motor cutting off like it's running out of fuel. I have installed new fuel lines (OMC) from the tank to the motor and replaced my fuel filter and water seperator already. I have installed new QL78YC plugs set at .030", checked my spark with my spark tester set at 7/16" and have a good blue spark on all cylinders, and my compression is 110-115 on all six cylinders. The motor will crank fine and run for a while and just loose power like it's not getting any fuel. The bulb stays firm. Usually the motor will crank back up and run for a short while again before doing the same thing, but sometimes it's hard to get it cranked back up. The funny thing is sometimes you can run it at maybe 2500-3000 rpm and it will run forever it seems like, but go on down on the throttle and it will die. What should I do next? If you think it is a fuel issue, what kits would I need to order to rebuild the fuel pump (fuel side only) or anything else I might need as I would like to have anything I might need on hand? Thanks for any advice you might give me.

If you have good spark when it happens, it most likely a fuel problem. You could plumb in a fuel pressure guage and see if you loose fuel pressure. If fuel pressure stays good, you most likey have carb problems. You could try spraying some fuel mixture into the carbs when it happens and see if it picks up.

If you can pump the primer bulb when the prob occurs this sort of eliminates the fuel pump if the prob is still there. Maybe you got some junk floating around in the carbs.
