25 hp evinrude

have a 1985 25 hp evinrude. the only owner of this motor. now the book calls for 40 on the plugs. i looked on the web,and what i see it all says 30 gap on the plugs. motor runs great at full throttle,when go into a no wake area the motor lunges and ruff idles. wants to go faster then wants to die.the fuel is fresh and new. the mix is ok. so is the carb or the coil packs going bad????

adjust the low speed needle, but it may need a carb rebuild. How long has it been since you did this? Has the motor sat up for a while?

yes sat for two years,never used it. had a 9.9 that used on the other lakes here in ohio. bought it brand new,only owner. no way to adjust the low speed on carb. wonder if the fuel didnt turn bad in the carb. but ran for hours this year and juts started

well its running one cylinder now,suppose that one coil pack is gone,changed coils around,to see if its the coil or the engine control mod. thanks all for the info thanks again
