35 Mercury shift shaft

I have a 35 Mercury with a broken shift shaft and motor mounts serial A184884 20 inch shaft .Every were i look the parts say discontinued. First of all I am not sure if this is a 85 or 86 model can some one help me withe the year and maybe a supplier of parts. this is my 17 year old sons boat so I am tackling this to help save him some dollars

I think the motor is a 1985 module as my book shows the 1986 serial# starting at A922171

this is my sons boat he is still in school so I am going to tackle this project for him . I had a marina check it out and was told 3 of the 4 motor mounts are broken and that caused the shift shaft to break. What do the motor mounts look like or are they calling them something else in the parts cat. needless to say a 17 year old does not have the $ to fix so back to dad to help out if I can
