1994 merc 175 starts easily, runs smooth for a while, then stalls and won't restart. doesnt sputter, just shuts off. compression checked last summer after alarm went off a couple times ( shut off, restarted and alarm didn't go off again) all good. 20 gals new fuel/seafoam/quicksilver after leaving a few gallons of untreated in all winter. Have run long enough on ears that new fuel should be in the engine. replaced impeller this winter. The fuel ball doesn't seem to stay hard, not empty, but not hard. I know this could be a number of things, where is the best place to start?
Re: 1994 merc 175 stalls wont restart
I checked the fire last night, all plugs firing. Fired for a second with a little starting fluid. Pulled a fuel line just past the fuel filter, produced a stream when cranked but can't tell if it was enough. There are a lot of part between the fuel filter and the injectors, any suggestions what it could be?
Won't restart at all. I will get a pressure guage and check pressure tomorrow. What should the pressure be? I see faztbullit is from Tenn, I have been going to Watts Bar for 30 years. Love it.
No fuel pressure, I didn't notice before but can't hear the fuel pump come on. Pulled pump, will have it checked to make sure it isn't a loose/cut wire somewhere. Don't see a fuse, anyone know if there is one?
Had it checked, it is working. What else could it be?

When running the fuel ball will not be hard. Fuel is moving through it and you can feel some resistance but not much. If it is sucked in you have a tank/input/possibly bulb problem.

When idling it doesn't take a lot of fuel. If your engine just died and won't start and your check of the pump pressure worked, I'd forget that.

Since you are savvy to Sea Foam, get some in the aerosol and remove the cowl and air box cover. Next time it won't restart, shoot the carbs with it and see if it lights off. If so, go chase fuel problems. Otherwise chase ignition problems. Sea Foam has oil in it and is what you want for spraying into a 2 stroke carb.

If Faztbullet sees this he will pick up the ball and run with it. Grin.
