I just bought a boat (Angler 2004 with a 2003 Evinrude 200HP). The gear lever has some play on it and sometimes I have trouble starting it due to not been properly in neutral.

How can I adjust the lever? I want to make sure that it is properly in neutral and that it engage in drive properly. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I think on that one you put the handle all the way foward and there is a hole at the bottom. Inside hole is a allan head bolt to tighten.

You may have some probs in the control box or else the the cables are out of adjustment on the mtr. Or else you have a loose or bad neutral safety switch in the box.

Re: Adjust throttle/gear handle

Just my two cents . But ist placed togetter the right way?. My Tiller handle on my smaller motor had a tight handle and it should turn lose . If you parts are placed in the wrong place it will not work right . I just thought I would ask you . You can also look on marineengine.com at things like this . I had the same problem starting my motor the way your telling the people on here . Its some looking around to see whats causeing the problem first . You may need some grease in something or need to adjust something as well . But I bet if you take a good look you can find out whats wrong . I dont think its that hard .
