1959 evinrude 35 hp golden jubilee

I just recently purchased a 1959 35 hp evinrude and noticed that it had small hooks on the sides what are they for? also has a cover on the side that looks like it's removable. are these options that it would of had?

That clip is the anchor for the shift cable. Could be a similar one on the port side for the throttle cable, too...

Yea, those are a must. Haven't seen many Golde Jubilees like those without remote controls.
