Hello All
New guy on the forum I am looking for some help with a motor I am tuning up for my daughters boat.
1965 5hp Johnson LD10s.Motor ran for me in a barrel, but I want to minimize the headaches. I am in the process of replacing the water pump impeller and found some missing parts. The parts that appear to be gone are 1 thru 7 on the parts page. I am using the 1968 Ld-13b online diagram for reference. I have the correct part numbers and the parts are available, But why were they removed? Clymer manual only mentions an o'ring. This assembly or seals and spring appears to protect the upper splines from getting wet? is it common to remove them?

Thank you
Scott

The parts should be there to keep water out of the crank and block. Who knows why they were left out, but put them back in.

Leaving them out leads to slow death of the powerhead internals from water ingestion. Also to slow death of the splines. Depends on which one comes first, stripped splines or tossed connecting rod. Either way, death is death.

Thanks to both responses. I am going to order parts, want to do it once.I just tore apart a QD22 that I cannot get the shaft out of, I am assuming this would eventually happen if those seals are left out or fail.

Thanks again

That could very well be the problem.
