Hey I'm new to this forum and a new boat owner heres my problem I just bought a 1996 bayliner Capri ss with the 5.0 alpha one and took it out for the first time and got a solid warning beep the whole time I was driving all gauges looked good. Well got to looking and had a cooler hose loose fixed it and took it out the previous day ran great parked out for about ten mins then went to start my boat back and had the alarm again rode boat and alarm kept going in and out finally the boat died on me on the water after it died it was rough to start back acted like it was starving for fuel. I let the boat set for about a week and went and turn the key just to see if the alarm was present and no alarm. Any help would b appreciated thanks.

Re: Warning alarm

Do you have the Mercruiser serial number for your engine? They list nothing on your motor by year.

Re: Warning alarm

Theres only three things that's going to make the engine alarm sound.Overheat,Low oil pressure or low gear lube moniter bottle.when the alarm sounds disconnect one of the wires on the bottle and see if it stops.

Re: Warning alarm

Are those pretty easy to find? And if it was one of the sensors would it cause my boat to die?

No, the boat won't die due to a sensor, but obviously you could kill your boat if the alarm is indicative of a major problem. The sensors are pretty much "open" during normal operation, so unplugging them is tricking the boat into thinking all is well. Make sure you check your gages and your drive lube oil reservoir too as they'll help you determine whether the alarm is in error or not.

I hope "cut" was a figure of speech. All the sensors have plugs you can just pull off. The lube oil reservoir has two wires coming out from underneath it that should have quick disconnect bullet ends on them.

Yes it stopped and I cut the wire because all levels are good and yes I cut it I unplugged all the sensors and the alarm still went off so I cut the blue and tan wire in the main wire harness
