I have a chancE to get a 1990 skeeter sk2000 with a 89 evinrude 300 less than 50 hrs only problem is it hasnt been ran in 5 years, are these motors good motors or were they lemons?
They are a gas pig, suck on low end performance and idling and heavy as all get out so dont expect a lot of speed(high 60's low 70's) from it as its so transom heavy. The gears,shafts and other internals in gearcase have long been NLA and there is very little aftermarket support for it as it used the King Cobra lower housing. Even SEI does not offer a replacement for it.
I think enough has been said. I seen one for sale on CL for three years, and the guy even was giving rides, and couldnt sell the boat with that motor on it.
